I’ve had Trim Healthy Table for a few weeks now, and as I’ve been cooking my way through it, I’m finally ready to post a review!
I’ve tried many of the recipes, and we have enjoyed every single one. Seriously. This is my first time with a cookbook where we’ve loved everything, and I’m pretty impressed! This book truly includes family friendly meals (over 300!)- in fact, I would be happy to serve non-THM guests these meals, as well. I would definitely say that I’m getting my money’s worth with this book and then some.
Before I jump in to explaining my favorite recipes, I need to take a moment to share that one of my recipes (Brownie Batter in a Mug) is included in the new book! Page 405, if you want to check it out yourself. I had no idea that Pearl Barrett, who co-wrote the book with her sister Serene Allison, would try any of my recipes, let alone like one enough to publish it in her cookbook! Workingathomeschool.com was mentioned in the Trim Healthy Mama Plan book as a meal planning resource, but in Trim Healthy Table they included one of my favorite creations. Pretty exciting for me!
On to the review –
The beginning of the book includes the clearest, most concise explanation of the Trim Healthy Mama Plan that I’ve read. I get daily emails from people who need help starting THM, and I’ve been so happy to direct them to the first few chapters of the new book. If you have any trouble understanding the plan, I recommend reading Trim Healthy Basics – Your Simple Start Guide beginning on page 17 before you jump in.
The recipes have been delicious, but I haven’t tried them all yet, so I’m sure I’ll be adding to my favorites list below! Here are my recommendations for where to start:
Wonderful White Blender Bread p. 242 – easy, quick, and delicious. It’s fluffy but not too eggy, and while it doesn’t necessarily look exactly like regular bread, I’ve been using two slices with roast beef and mayo for a quick sandwich and I have not been disappointed. It does taste like bread to me, although a bit denser and somehow also squishier than regular bread. This has been a great bread substitute and it’s really filling, too. For a busy mom, I think this is a must-make recipe to keep on hand.
